There comes a time in the life of a bathroom where it cannot hold itself any longer and it starts leaking. Sometimes it takes us a long time before we identify this problem and this can create an extensive amount of damage to the structure of the house.

Shower leaks can occur for different reasons. There are two different kinds of shower pans fiberglass and hot-mop. The latter being the longer lasting more durable one of the
two.

The fiberglass shower pan is pre-fabricated and usually installed in commercial buildings. It is soft and therefore cannot bear heavy weight for a long time if not installed correctly. The hot mop shower pan is constructed of 6 layers: Plywood, sand, hot-mop, cement, mortar and tile, making it highly protective of water and durable.

It is possible to replace only the shower pan. We have done it before where the shower walls were in great shape and tiled very nicely but the shower pan was leaking.

We will carefully demolish only the bottom part of the shower and reconstruct it to fit the existing tile. When a tub is leaking, you can either call a re-glaze contractor who will seal the hole and re-sparkle the color of your tub or you can replace that tub with either a shower pan or a different tub. Same as in shower pan leak, you do not need to remodel the entire bathroom in order to do this.
