Refacing a kitchen is the process of giving it a facelift. It includes changing the appearance for all of the items in the kitchen, while leaving the structure and the cabinet boxes intact. In detail:
The Cabinets
There are different types of cabinets: Formica, stained wood, painted wood, steel and plastic. The wood cabinets have the best results when refaced. Neptune’s re-facing process includes the following:
At this stage of the project, your cabinets are empty and the openings can be reconfigured into any of the cabinetry features available, such as spice rack, trash can pullout, drawers and pullout shelves.
The Countertop
Your countertop can be replaced with any of products described on our countertop page. See Countertop for details. It is possible to replace your sink and faucet along with your countertop.
Appliances
In most cases your new appliances should have the same size and structure as your existing ones.
Flooring
Whatever flooring you might choose, keep this in mind - your cabinets are your floor boundaries. You will have to cut the flooring when it reaches your cabinet’s base. We usually cover that cut with the cabinets toe kick. Also, look out for your dishwasher height. You do not want your dishwasher to be stuck between the floor and the countertop. This means, if you build up your flooring with tile - making it taller by about 2” - your dishwasher is going to end up higher than your cabinets. The cabinet height doesn’t change, so the dishwasher has to stay on the existing surface; or, special alterations must be made so you can easily remove the dishwasher in case of a breakdown.
Plumbing has to stay as existing, while lighting and plugs can be replaced when re-facing your kitchen.
